The Best Way To Lose Weight
                             by Brian Menard

When searching for the best way to lose weight, there are several important factors to consider. Everybody has needs which are are specific to their own lifestyle, health and objectives. This is the reason why there are so many diet plans available.
In this article, I have decided it would be more beneficial to discuss a strategy for losing weight rather than promoting any specific diet. There are several very important benefits to properly preparing for any weight loss program. For the purpose of this article, I will illustrate an easy to follow plan below.

Steps for preparing an effective plan of action.

 1. Write a "general" list.

This is a great place to begin your preparation process. Because each person's needs are unique, this will allow you to focus on your specific circumstances, needs and objectives (goals). Perhaps the easiest way to write this list is to simply list every thought that comes to mind with regards to your own situation. Don't concern yourself with creating a "polished" document at this point. You simply want to express all of your thoughts on this subject so you can go on to the next steps of your plan. Think of this document you are writing as a "private journal" and be completely honest with yourself. Remember, nobody else will see this.

  2. Make a list of specific items which pertain to your own situation.

For example, maybe you have a desk job and then go home to take care of your children. Or maybe, you have another part time job you need to go to each day. Do you get exercise on a regular basis or are you too exhausted after working all day. As you can see, the possibilities are as diverse and unique as we are. This is why it is so important to focus some serious attention on your own personal needs. Formulating a successful plan to lose weight requires some serious evaluation of your specific situation. Just to remind you once again, please don't worry about creating a polished article while doing this. You simply need to write down these items for the purpose of having a "quick reference" point to to assist you when choosing the best plan of action.

3. List the reasons why you would like to lose weight.

Please try to be very specific in this section. While creating this list, try to list some specific items which you can associate with your progress once you've begun your plan of action. If you list items in general terms here, they will be of very little use later. This is also a great time to list some of your goals and objectives. You can later refer back to this area of your plan to follow your progress.

4. Find the diet plan that best suits your needs and objectives.

Having now examined your specific needs and reasons for losing weight, you can now consider which type of plan will suit your needs and lifestyle most effectively. You can peruse self help books in your local book store or library and you can also read a vast amount of articles on the Internet. When searching on the Internet, remember to reference specific terms which apply to your situation. For example, if you are too busy to exercise, you want to conduct your search to reflect this issue. On the other hand, maybe you love to exercise, in that case, let exercise be part of your specified search.
There are so many articles out there, it's very easy to lose focus in favor of all the visually appealing advertisements on the web. The models on television and the Internet didn't get "ripped" by eating Cole slaw and yogurt. Muscle tone requires serious exercise. However, weight loss is another story. It is quite possible to lose weight without exercise. Although I am a strong advocate of the benefits of being physically fit, this article is about diet and not physical training. It is worth noting that virtually all diet plans work much faster when accompanied by a physical training program. Common sense dictates that the faster our metabolism is working, the quicker we'll lose weight. Only you can decide if exercise should be a part of your new plan.

 5. Choose your plan of action.

The last important item to consider before choosing your preferred plan of action is to decide if you are doing this as a permanent change in lifestyle or if you are simply looking to lose the weight and get back to your traditional eating pattern again. There are virtually hundreds (if not thousands) of very effective diet plans which will work for your short term goals. Please be aware of the fact that some of these plans may have some serious health related repercussions. Also, these short term plans all seem to have the "rebound effect." Once you stop following their plan, the weight typically returns with a few extra pounds. If you are looking for a permanent solution to your weight control, be sure to specify this when conducting your searches for an appropriate plan. Once you've determined the method you will implement for your new program, you simply need to set a date and time to begin your journey!

Remember to keep this list which you've written so you can check back from time to time to see if you are achieving your objectives. The plan you write down will serve as a guide to help you maintain your focus until you've achieved all of your goals.
